Celebrating Thanksgiving: A Time for Gratitude and Togetherness

Amid the historic events unfolding in America today, it feels especially fitting to pause and give thanks for the ways God continues to bless this nation. As we approach Thanksgiving, embrace the rich tradition of gathering with family and friends to celebrate the blessings of meaningful relationships and a bountiful feast.

A Feast to Remember

Picture a beautifully prepared table: a roasted turkey seasoned with fragrant herbs, honey-baked ham infused with spicy cinnamon and cloves, golden roasted potatoes, and an array of perfectly roasted vegetables. No Thanksgiving is complete without baked yams and classic comfort dishes like green bean casserole and creamy mac and cheese.
Of course, the beauty of America lies in its diversity, and Thanksgiving often reflects this through ethnic flavors and traditions. For many Mexican-American families, tamales and salsa are staples of the holiday table. The spicy, savory aroma of freshly steamed tamales blends seamlessly with the other traditional dishes, adding a unique twist to the celebration.

Indulging in the Thanksgiving Spirit

One “tradition” we Americans often enjoy with perhaps too much enthusiasm is eating to our hearts’ content! With plates piled high and moderation set aside for the day, we savor every dish. And somehow, we always make room for the tempting desserts waiting at the end of the meal—after all, Thanksgiving only comes once a year.

The Power of Gratitude

Life can be challenging, and sometimes there is no getting around extreme or painful situations. Seeing beyond them is a choice we can make. I strongly believe in exercising the muscle of gratitude. Acknowledging and appreciating all the positive things that happen in our lives helps us navigate through life with peace. Thankfulness is a great daily tool to use. I have practiced intentional gratitude and have seen the benefits it brings.

A Thanksgiving Message

This Thanksgiving holiday, choose to be grateful for all the many blessings you have, especially living in the good ole USA! Enjoy your turkey and tamales with friends and family, and be blessed. Meat filled savory tamales mingle so nicely with all the other savory dishes on the table.

Part of the “tradition” or bad habit we Americans gleefully indulge in is eating too much on Thanksgiving day! Our eyes glitter with anticipation, moderation is thrown out the window and we eat to our hearts content. No dish is left untouched. Being tenacious Americans we somehow leave room for the array of delicious desserts that await us, after-all the Thanksgiving feast comes but once a year.

Life is hard, sometimes there is no getting around extreme or painful situations. Yet even in hardship, we have the power to choose gratitude. I firmly believe in the transformative practice of intentional thankfulness. Acknowledging and appreciating the good in our lives, no matter how small, cultivates peace and joy. I've experienced firsthand how this mindset can shift perspectives and lighten burdens.

This Thanksgiving, let gratitude guide your heart. Celebrate the many blessings of living in the good old USA, surrounded by loved ones and the flavors that make this holiday special. Savor the turkey, tamales, and treasured moments with family and friends. Be blessed and enjoy the season!
